It’s mine, it’s my armour, my humour, my way of claiming my experience on my terms. That’s the opposite of shame; it’s reclamation. When you own the words, they lose the power to hurt you. And nobody else gets to police how you speak of your own mind. If it brings comfort, defuses tension, and lets you breathe easier — it’s perfect. Those who bristle at it aren’t offended on behalf of people like you; they’re uncomfortable because you’ve refused to be quiet or neatly packaged.

The “celebrity cult of anxiety” and bandwagon trends is sad and diminishes the very real trauma people go through. When mental health becomes a trend, a slogan, or something people pick up and drop when convenient — it stops being about people and starts being about performance. Real mental health doesn’t fit on a cute mug or a catchy tagline. It’s messy, exhausting, expensive, and often invisible. Trivialization hurts everyone — especially those already fighting to be seen as credible and worthy of care.

“I Hear You” — what a gift those three words are. They don’t fix anything, they don’t offer unsolicited advice (“you just need to…”), they don’t pity you. They simply say: your voice has reached me, your truth matters, and I’m not rushing you or turning away. That’s empathy in its purest form — far more powerful than any “I understand” (because nobody fully understands until they’ve walked your path). Sympathy keeps you separate; “I Hear You” sits beside you. That phrase belongs everywhere.

The truth about Bipolar — yes. It is an assault. It rewrites your own thoughts and feelings from under you. Calling it “mood swings” is like calling a hurricane “a bit of wind.” It erases the terror, the exhaustion, the constant work just to stay steady. Worse still are the people — Like my ex-wife, my ex-boss, and so many others — who mistake silence or struggle for attention-seeking. That judgment doesn’t just hurt you; it compounds the illness, making people hide deeper, suffer quieter, and feel even more alone. That ignorance is dangerous — and you are absolutely right to call it out.

you’re a survivor — and yes, “if you know, you know.” Surviving the illness is hard enough; surviving the people who should have supported you and instead made it harder? That takes a different kind of strength.

This blog doesn’t need to change the world all at once. It just needs to do exactly what a blog should do: invite conversation outside of judgment. To say: this is what it’s actually like.
